The Shining book vs movie is going to compare Stephen King’s “The Shining” and Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining.” First of all let me give you my rating for both version of The Shining.
Book rating: 4/5
Movie rating: 5/5
Yes to me, the movie is way better than the novel. But the novel is really great also. But to compare Stephen King’s novel and the adapted Stanley Kubrick movie is like comparing apples and oranges. Yes, the movie is adapted from the novel. But the novel and the movie gives you a different feel. I’ll explain how it does that.
In the novel, the author is very sympathetic towards the protagonist while in the movie, the director shows no mercy to his lead. In both the works, we are lead to believe that Jack loves his son so much. Only in the novel, we get to see that Jack really loves his son. Whereas, in the movie Jack loves the Overlook hotel more than his son. Both in movie and the novel, the realization of REDRUM is creepy.
